PADI ReActivate
For certified divers coming back after a break. A half-day refresher to rebuild your skills, restore your confidence, and get you back in the water without pressure.
What you need
When you should take this
Your refresh certification
ReActivate is right for you if…
- You haven’t dived in 6 months or longer
- You feel nervous or rusty about your skills
- You have an upcoming dive trip and want to prepare
- You’re getting ready to take an advanced course and need to refresh first
- You learned to dive years ago and want a no-pressure check-in
No pressure. No strict timeline.
The PADI ReActivate program is for certified divers who want to review their skills, rebuild comfort, and feel prepared before diving again. There’s no test, no judgment, and no rigid schedule.
The focus is simply on helping you feel comfortable and in control before your next real dive.

A short theory review, then back in the water.
The session includes a brief theory refresher and practical skill practice in a controlled environment. You’ll revisit mask skills, regulator skills, hovering, and air sharing — the core fundamentals.
After the mandatory skills, your instructor or divemaster will help you practice anything else you’re unsure of or want to improve. The pace is yours.
How the program works
-
01
Paperwork and review
~15 minWe begin with a short review of your certification and experience. Any concerns, questions, or specific skills you want to focus on can be discussed before entering the water.
-
02
Theory refresher
~30–60 minYou’ll go over key concepts such as dive planning, safety procedures, and equipment use. This can be completed online in advance via PADI eLearning, or reviewed together with your instructor on the day.
-
03
Confined water session
~1–2 hoursThe heart of the program. In calm, shallow water you’ll review essential skills — mask clearing, regulator recovery, buoyancy control, and basic underwater communication. This part is done at your pace, with time to get comfortable again.
-
04
Open water dive — optional
~45 min if chosenIf you feel ready, we can continue with a supervised open water dive. This lets you apply your refreshed skills in a real dive environment. Many students choose to do this; some prefer to wait until their next planned dive. Both are fine.

What you will gain
Sharp skills again
Mask clearing, regulator recovery, buoyancy control — all the muscle memory that fades when you’re out of the water.
Confidence restored
The biggest barrier to returning to diving is your own head. ReActivate rebuilds your trust in yourself before you trust the ocean again.
Trip-ready
A refreshed cert on file means dive operators worldwide will book you without hesitation.
Path forward
Many divers use ReActivate as the stepping stone to an Advanced course or specialty. Refreshed skills meet new training.
Typically a few hours to a half-day, depending on your needs. It includes a knowledge review and confined water practice, with an optional open water dive if you choose to add one.
Not necessarily. The core of the program is confined water skill practice. The open water dive is optional and can be included based on your comfort level and your dive plans for the rest of the trip.
Yes — completing ReActivate can help you meet the prerequisites for advanced courses like PADI Advanced Open Water or Rescue Diver, by confirming your skills are current.
